The company Trend Micro Inc. released the first antivirus package for the Sony PlayStation 3 console, the Associated Press.
The representatives of the Trend Micro claimed that their development is blocking web pages that contain viruses and can restrict access to material harmful to the child's mind, that is, statements as to sex, drugs and violence. According to experts, the console, providing access to Internet content, in need of such software is not less than ordinary PCs.
It should be noted that the standard software platform the PlayStation 3 is significantly different from conventional operating systems. The hardware part of the PlayStation 3 is also not entirely consistent with the concept of a personal computer. Both of these conditions make it difficult to write viruses for the PS3. It is also not yet found a Trojan, or similar programs that steal personal information to the owner of the console.
The software is already available to owners of Sony's console as a device firmware upgrade. Before April 2008 anti-virus package is free.
